Why 18650 li ion battery in low temperature capacity would become less?


The battery charge and discharge the temperature dropped below 0 ℃, the lithium battery charge and discharge capacity and voltage will be reduced sharply. This is because, at low temperatures, the mobility of lithium ions in electrolytes, SEI, and graphite particles decreases. Such a harsh cold environment is bound to result in the release of high-specific surface areas of lithium.

Will 18650 battery (2.2 A, NCM523 / graphite) under A certain charge and discharge mechanism under 0 ℃ low temperature simulation cycle. Charging and discharging mechanism is: cc-cv charging, charging rate is 1C, charging cutoff voltage is 4.2V, charging cutoff current is 0.05C, and then CC discharge to 2.75V. Because a battery SOH is generally defined as a dead state (EOL) of a battery when it is 70-80%. Therefore, when the battery SOH was selected as 70%, the battery was terminated. The internal electrolyte of the recirculating battery will produce other decomposition reactions under low temperature, so the battery will be more unstable after low temperature circulation, and both thermal and mechanical abuse will increase its safety risks.
