How to Make a 60v Battery with 18650 Li ion Battery?

The lithium battery pack is composed of two parts, the cell and the protective board.


There are many types of lithium batteries: lithium, polymer, lithium iron phosphate, etc. There are many kinds of lithium batteries; there are 18650, square and so on from the shape; the voltage of each cell is generally 3.7V, full power is 4.2V, lithium iron phosphate cell voltage is 3.2V, full power is 3.6V; besides voltage parameters, there is also an important parameter of the cell is capacity, which will generally be marked on the shell of the cell; there will be more than one cell. The parallel connection of cells can achieve the capacity we need, and the series connection of multiple parallel cells can achieve the output voltage we need. This sheet mainly explains the DIY process, so I won't go into details.


Note: This article focuses on personal DIY process for reference.


Test. Friends who try to make their own devices need some hands-on ability and knowledge of electronic circuits. They have certain risks. Do not imitate them.


DIY process of 60V20AH lithium battery pack:


I first decided on my own needs: after testing, my Little Turtle King was equipped with 60V20AH, which can run 70KM at a low speed. Sometimes I want to go out and play. It takes about 100KM (why not drive? There's a car at home, but I don't have a driver's license and I don't want to learn. ) So as long as I have another set of 60V20AH batteries to meet my requirements (must leave more room to prevent all uncertainties), two sets of 20AH batteries can run about 140 KM.


Understanding the demand, began to choose the cell: lithium cells are not so good choice, the water is quite deep ah... On the market can not buy any cost-effective cells, more reliable Toshiba 18650 nearly 30 yuan a section, although the dismantling battery is cheap, but capacity, consistency and life can not be guaranteed; the collapse of large factories, acquisition, depending on the spectrum of not sold abroad.... Decided to start this 5300 mAH cell, the price is cheaper on 10 yuan a section, the shape is about 2 18650 parallel size (here is just to show my choice of batteries, the actual use of 18650, monomers, polymers, soft packs can be! ):


The battery shell is positive, and the top of the battery is convex, which belongs to the ternary lithium battery. Other parameters such as internal resistance, discharge rate, cycle number and so on should be paid attention to when choosing the cell. I have found these parameters which have been tested by many people and seem to be more suitable for me. Speaking of discharge rate, it is discharge current/battery capacity. The publicity page says that the discharge is 2C and the battery is 5300mAH. The theoretical maximum sustained discharge current of 2C discharge is 10.6A. If four batteries are connected in parallel, the sustained discharge current can reach 42.4A. My car motor power is 800W, voltage is 60V, then the maximum current is 800/60 = 13.33A, even if the discharge rate can only reach half of the propaganda, it is enough for me. As for the number of cycles, the official test results are 2000... What is the concept of 2000 cycles? Full charge and discharge every 2 days can be used for 11 years! Of course, this is only theoretical data. If the battery can be recycled 300 times, it will be overvalued. Of course, if it lasts longer, it will be equivalent to picking up the battery.


Receiving batteries must not be placed at will. Looking at the structure, we know that it is easy to cause short-circuit. After short-circuit, it will leak liquid and the battery will be discarded. Businessmen sell bare batteries, so I can only attach insulating pads to batteries by myself (thanks to the insulating pads sent by businessmen) to prevent short circuit caused by welding and use:


By the way, grind the negative pole with fine sandpaper for easy welding.


After the insulating pad is put on, the heat shrinkable shell sent by the merchant shall be put on the battery sleeve to prevent short circuit between the batteries.


After polishing and putting on the heat-shrinkable shell, the heat-shrinkable shell can be automatically tightened by blowing it with a hairdryer. I have no patience, so I make it casually:


It is very important to check the consistency of batteries one by one. We must use batteries of the same size and type. If a battery has a problem, it may drag down the whole battery group, so each battery should be checked to replace inconsistent batteries. After testing, the voltage of each battery is about 3.58V, the error is very low, and the consistency is quite good.


After doing the above work, put the positive and negative batteries in the bracket, close the bracket and prepare for welding. The brackets are arranged vertically in four groups in parallel, five in series across, and four groups of brackets in four and seventeen strings.


Previously, after trial welding, it was found that 30W soldering iron was not good for welding, and it was easy to damage batteries after long welding, which required high welding technology. But it's also good to weld with copper wire. The resistance of copper is not lower than that of nickel.


Do a good job of insulation between battery brackets, do not short circuit each other, first pull the plug of the protective board connection line, after connecting all the wires, check and insert correctly. The checking method is very simple. The multimeter pen is placed on the first line at the end of the plug of the main protective board, i. e. the middle and negative poles. The voltage can be increased in turn from left to left. For example, my voltage is 3.6V, 7.2V, 10.8V... 60V. My welding is a bit ugly, anyway, it is not virtual welding, it will not fall. After inserting the protective board, if the connection is correct, there will be 60V voltage output between the P-of the protective board and the total positive of the battery, and if the connection is incorrect, there will be no output.
